Just because the regular season is over in the NHL that doesn’t mean the hockey DFS is over until the fall. There are lots of opportunities to grow our bankroll in the playoffs. I am going to go series by series and break down matchups I like on each team and tell you who I think is going to win each series and how long I think the series is going to last.
Today I will focus on the three series starting on Wednesday. Tomorrow there will be another article on the 5 series that begin on Thursday.
Minnesota Wild at Winnipeg Jets
I predict Jets win in 5 games.
A lot of people are expecting this to be a close series. Expect the games to be close but I expect it to be a quick series. Winnipeg won 32 games at home this season while the Wild only won 18 games on the road this season. Minnesota was much better at home which is why I expect them to win one of their home games. However look for the Jets to win all of their home games and expect them to dispense of the Wild quickly.
Blake Wheeler had a great season and was steady all season for the Jets. Also, he had 6 points in 4 games against the Wild this season.
Connor Hellebuyck Hellebuyck was fantastic all season long. Even though he wasn’t projected to be the starter at the beginning of the season. He finished the season on a 9 game win streak. He is going to be a very safe option in net in the first round.
When at home I like their top line. Look for a Wild stack on game 3 and 4 of the series to be successful.
Eric Staal had 42 points in 41 home games this season.
Mikael Granlund 39 points in 40 home games.
Zach Parise scored ⅔ of this points at home this season.
As for the Wild defense, I don’t really like to use them in DFS because they spread their ice time around on the blue line.
Philadelphia Flyers at Pittsburgh Penguins
I predict Penguins in 5.
The Penguins have won two straight Stanley Cups and the Flyers were not expected to be in the playoff this season. The Penguins have the best power play in the NHL while the Flyers penalty kill ranked 29th in this season and is the worst among playoff teams. Find guys that play on the Penguins power play and stack them up.
Here is a list of their top power play.
I like them all. Also as cheaper value plays
Derick Brassard is cheap on Draftkings right now. Also, defenseman Justin Schultz and Olli Maatta are often good value plays.
Nolan Patrick Has had a great rookie season and for him the Flyers to have a chance they are going to need to get some secondary scoring. He is going to be a great GPP option.
The Flyers top line is going to be contrarian as well because most people playing this series will be on the Penguins players.
Claude Giroux had 102 points this season and will be low owned in GPPs.
Shayne Gostisbehere The Flyers are my favorite GPP option especially for game one. If the Flyers are going to have some success Gostisbehere is going to be involved in the scoring.
Los Angeles Kings at Vegas Golden Knights
I predict Kings in 7. This is a close series and I can see either team being the winning team at the end of it. I am going to give the Kings the slight advantage given their playoff experience.
Vegas Golden Knights
Look to use Vegas players to get some salary relief. The Knights play all of their players and their second line of Neal, Haula and Tuch score often.
Shea Theodore Theodore plays on the power-play and will give us room to fit the high price guys we want in our lineups.
Alex Tuch Tuch plays on the Knights top power-play unit and scored 10 points on the power play. He will give us some salary relief.
Los Angeles Kings
Anze Kopitar Had a great bounce-back season. He scored 5 points in 4 games vs the Golden Knights this season.
Dustin Brown Also had a bounce-back season. Stack him with Kopitar.
Drew Doughty Is going to be sneaky. He has 51 points in 81 career playoff games.
