Draftkings hockey preview for December 23rd

Welcome to the Saturday Draftkings preview. Tonight we have a really interesting slate with nothing really jumping off the page in terms of matchups to pick on.  We are going to have to do some digging to find the right plays tonight.

Top Pick of the Night

NIKITA KUCHEROV Tampa Bay Lightning $8100

Like I said in the introduction nothing really sticks out in the way of positive matchups.  When that happens I go with where the goals have been all season and that is the Lightning.  I know the Wild can be a stingy defensive team but the Lightning are the best offensive team in the league and they are at home.  Where they score 4 goals a game.

STEVEN STAMKOS Tampa Bay Lightning $7800

Anchoring your lineup with Kucherov and Stamkos should give you a great floor to start with tonight.  We will see if we can find some value elsewhere.

Nathan Mackinnon Colorado Avalanche $7000

This is likely an either or situation for you on Draftkings.  Either the Lightning players of the Avalanche players.  Mackinnon has been hot lately and the Avs get the Coyotes in Arizona on a back to back. Going with Aves over Lighting will allow you to spend up elsewhere.  It just depends on how much you trust the value that you able to find further down in the article.

PAUL STASTNY St. Louis Blues $4900

Stastny seems to be in the article more often then he should be but the Blues get the Canucks in Vancouver tonight and the Canucks have been letting in goals recently, a lot of goals.  The Habs scored 7 in Vancouver this week.  The Blues second line provides us with some value tonight and Stastny is a part of that value.

TOMAS HERTL San Jose Sharks $5000

Hertl has been productive since being moved to center in place of Logan Couture who is out with a concussion.  He has 3 points in the two games he has played on the Sharks second line.  His price is fair and with the Sharks at home tonight playing the Kings who are returning home after an east coast road trip which is usually a tough game for the home team.  Add in that it is Christmas season and all of the distractions that go along with it.  I like the Sharks tonight.

MIKKO RANTANEN Colorado Avalanche $4700

While the other winger on this line may be more well known and more in the front of your brain right now due to the hat trick he scored last weekend.  Rantanen has been the more steady player and the better cash game option.  He has 9 points in his last 10 games.  He also gets lots of shots on goal averaging about 3 shots a game recently giving him a safe floor. With the Coyotes playing back to back at home I feel the Avs have one of the better matchups tonight.

TAGE THOMPSON St. Louis Blues $3200

Thompson scored his first NHL on Thursday and his playing on the Blues second line since being called up from the AHL this week.  He should get an opportunity for his second goal tonight against the Canucks.

KEVIN LABANC San Jose Sharks $3500

Labanc had 4 points on Thursday night and helped me easily cash in all of my contests.  His price only went up $200 after that and has another chance for a big night against the Kings as they return home after a long eastern road trip.

SEBASTIAN AHO Carolina Hurricanes $4900

The ‘Canes get the Sabres on the end of a back to back and at home.  The Sabres are obviously struggling this season and might have already packed it in and are thinking of the break more than the game they need to play tonight.  The ‘Canes should score a few goals tonight and I expect Aho to be in on at least one of them.

ALEXANDER STEEN St. Louis Blues $4800

The last part of the Blues second line for my write up tonight. I expect the Blues to score often tonight.  You guys should know by now my feelings on second lines at home. Let’s get the Blues second line in our lineups and win some money tonight.

BRENT BURNS San Jose Sharks $7200

Burns has been on fire since his defense partner Brenden Dillon returned from injury.  Burns has been averaging more than a point a game and should be good for at least one more tonight.  If you can fit Burns into your lineup tonight you are going to be in a good spot.

JEFF PETRY Montreal Canadiens $4200

I am sticking with Petry after last night.  He provided the floor I expected from him with 2 draftkings points. I think he is in a better spot then he was last night.  As the Oilers penalty kill has been terrible in the month of December and I think he should be good for a point on the power play tonight.

DAVID SCHLEMKO Montreal Canadiens $3000

If you are looking for a little more value at defense then I a recommend Schlemko again.  He had 2 draftkings points last night in Calgary.  He is on the Habs first power play and with the Oilers weak penalty kill I think he is also in a better position then he was last night to score a point tonight.

KEVIN SHATTENKIRK New York Rangers $4800

I have no idea why Shattenkirk is only $4800.  He gets the plum matchup against the Leafs tonight and they are at home.  He plays on the Rangers top power-play unit and has massive upside tonight against the Leafs.

MATT DUMBA Minnesota Wild $4700

Dumba is rolling for the Wild right now with points in 4 straight games.  On top of why I like Dumba is the Lighting penalty kill has been running at 63% in December.  Dumba is a great play tonight.

Keep in mind that this article is written before all starting goalies are announced.  Please keep an eye out to make sure that your goalie is going to start.

MATT MURRAY Pittsburgh Penguins $8000

As the Ducks finish their long east coast trip tonight they are likely more eager to get home for Christmas and many are likely not even going on the team charter after the game as they will be heading to see their families for the Christmas break.  Murry and the Penguins are big favorites tonight and should win tonight.

ANDREI VASILEVSKIY Tampa Bay Lightning $8400

The Lightning will head into the Christmas break with the best record in the NHL no matter the result tonight.  Vasilevshiy has been great so far and has a 2.00 GAA in his last 10 with a save percentage of .935 and 6 wins in his last 7 starts.

CAM WARD Carolina Hurricanes $7600

The Sabres played last night, traveled to play in Carolina tonight and should have half of their brain focussed on Christmas.  The Hurricanes are likely the much more focused team tonight and should be good for a win tonight.
