Draftkings hockey preview for January  13th

Welcome to the Saturday Draftkings preview. We have a 7 game slate tonight as many teams are returning from their 5-day breaks. I am going to do my best to find you the best plays tonight.  Let’s get started!

Center

SEAN COUTURIER Philadelphia Flyers $6900

The Flyers went into their break scoring 16 goals in their last 3 games and Sean Couturier had 5 of those goals. I don’t think that they are going to keep up that base for much longer but Devils are a team that can be scored on.

NICO HISCHIER New Jersey Devils $5400

Hischier plays on the Devils top line and gets to play with Taylor Hall.  Hischier is the guy that you want to stack with Hall.  Hischier has been shooting more lately and I think that is going to continue.  Look for Hischier to get at least a point tonight.  He is a bit of a value tonight at his price as well.

ERIK HAULA Vegas Golden Knights $5900

I really like Vegas’ top line tonight which is also their top power play line as well.  I think they are playable in both cash and GPPs tonight.  The Oilers played well last night coming from behind to beat the Coyotes but teams really struggle in Vegas and they especially seem to struggle after playing in Arizona the night before.  Haula has 15 points in 17 games at home. Add the Oilers terrible penalty kill this season and the Vegas top line and top power-play unit are as close to must plays tonight as they can get.

Wing

TAYLOR HALL New Jersey Devils $7300

The Devils get the Flyers at home tonight.  Hall is a more than a point a game player so far this season and has 11 in his last 10 games and 5 points in his last 3 games leading into the Devils into their 5-day break. Add in that the Flyers have only killed off penalties  3 of their last 7 times shorthanded.  The Devils should be in a good spot to score a few goals tonight.

JAMES NEAL Vegas Golden Knights $5500

18 goals at the halfway point of the season is a great half season.  That is how many Neal has and he seemingly scores every night at home.  He has 11 goals at home this season.  He plays them on the top power-play unit for Vegas which should score at least once tonight.

CLAUDE GIROUX Philadelphia Flyers $6600

16 assists in 10 games are impossible to ignore.  Giroux and the Flyers have been streaky this season and they are on a scoring streak right now. Giroux is working his way into the conversation as being one of the elite players in the NHL again this season.  The Flyers top line is the 4th most productive line in the NHL.  Look for them to keep producing tonight.

TIMO MEIER San Jose Sharks $4200

Meier is still on the Sharks top line and the Sharks get a plus matchup against the Coyotes tonight.  Meier will also get an opportunity on the Sharks second power-play unit.  Look for the Sharks to score often tonight as they go up against a tired Coyotes team that should be easy pickings after blowing a 2 goal lead last night to the Oilers.

TRAVIS KONECNY Philadelphia Flyers $3500

Konecny gets the sidecar seat on the Flyers top line as he gets to play on one of the most productive lines in the NHL and has a great opportunity again tonight to get on the scoreboard.  Konecny is a great value option tonight to help us fit in all the expensive plays we want in our lineups.

Defense

BRENT BURNS San Jose Sharks $7200

Burns might be the hottest fantasy player in the NHL right now.  He has 22 shots on goal in the last three Sharks game giving him a very high floor.  Add in a goal and 3 assists over the same three games and he almost cashes for you by himself.  His price is still a very affordable $7200 making him almost a must play.

JOHN KLINGBERG Dallas Stars $5900

If Burns is out of your price range tonight then Klingberg is your next best option on the blue line tonight.  The Avalanche are not a strong defensive team and allow 3.44 goals per game on the road this season good for 5th most.

SHEA THEODORE Vegas Golden Knights $4300

Theodore has been the Knights best offensive defenseman recently.  He plays on their top power-play unit which should be able to take advantage of the Oilers poor penalty kill tonight.  Theodore is a bit of a value tonight at his price.  He doesn’t offer the high floor that I look for in a defenseman but given how good the Knights are at home and how bad the Oilers penalty kill is I think Theodore is a safe play tonight.

Goalie

.

Keep in mind that this article is written before all starting goalies are announced.  Please keep an eye out to make sure that your goalie is going to start.

MARC-ANDRE FLEURY Vegas Golden Knights $8300

All we need to do here is look at the Knights record at home.  18 wins and 3 losses.  Add in that Fleury is 6-2 at home with a goal against of 1.86 and a save percentage of .939  he is a must-start in cash tonight.

MARTIN JONES San Jose Sharks $8400

Jones and the Sharks get the worst team in the league tonight.  The Coyotes have 26 points in 44 games and only 10 wins.  The Coyotes are equally bad at home as they are on the road so being home for the Sharks isn’t a big advantage but the fact that the Coyotes played last night and traveled should be all the advantage the Sharks need.
