Daily Fantasy CFL – Week 3

Week 2 sure was an exciting week as a CFL fan. The Riders and Bombers played in a surprise shootout. There were a few injuries but nothing like we had in week one. Also, I am coming off a winning week CFL DFS, hopefully, you are too. I am excited for week 3 in the CFL where there are many great fantasy options.

Thursday, July 6th BC Lions at Montreal Alouettes

BC Lions favored by 2.5 over under 49.5

Weather: No concerns as of writing

BC Lions
Injuries: Bryan Burnham limped off the field in the 4th quarter. He should be fine.
QB: Montreal appeared to keep Mike Reilly in check last week. However, the Eskimos dropped a couple of what looked to be sure touchdowns. I feel the Alouettes can still give up lots of yards through the air.  The Lions offense hasn’t really performed as well has many expected it would to start the season. I expect that to keep the ownership down on Jennings this week. I like Jennings as a GPP option this week.
RB: Jeremiah Johnson performed well against a good Argos run defense. Look for the Lions to give him a few more opportunities as the Lions will probably try and balance out the offense against the Al’s pass defense.
WR: Adarius Bowman had a great game against the Alouettes last week and Many Arceneaux plays the same position. Ryan Phillips was up against Bowman at the start of the game and couldn’t stop him. I don’t see any reason not to use him if you are going to stack the Lions this week or you can use him in your cash games. Burnham was the Lions best receiver last week and should see lots of targets again this week. The Lions receiver to avoid this week is Nic More as he should be matched up against Mincey.

Montreal Alouettes
Injuries: Saftey Chris Ackie (returned), John Bowman DE
QB: Darian Durant has been about what the Als should have expected he only threw for 166 yards last week. Also, I think it is time to out head coach and OC Jacques Chapdelaine, I don’t trust his offenses when it comes to red zone efficiency. The Lions defense created a few turnovers last week. I can see the Lions defense creating more turnover this week against Montreal this week.  Add to that the Lions have Chris Rainy returning kicks I like the Lions defense again this week.
RB: Tyrell Sutton had a good game last week and is in play this week as a value RB. Keep a look out to make sure he is starting this week as the Als have hinted at rotating their starting running backs to keep them fresh this season. If that is the case Brandon Rutley is also a value at running back this week.
WR: Nik Lewis had been the Als most consistent pass catcher so far, this season. I am not recommending you use him in GPPs however if he fits into your cash game lineup I’m not going to tell you not to use him.

Friday, July 7th Calgary Stampeders at Winnipeg Blue Bombers

Calgary favored by 3.5 over under 56

Weather: No concerns as of writing

Calgary Stampeders
Injuries: Bryan Hall DT James Vaughters DL
QB: Bo Levi Mitchell has been the most reliable QB to start the season. The Bombers got lit up by Kevin Glenn and the Riders. I except every ranking this week to have Mitchell projected as the top QB this week and I have no reason to argue with that.
RB: Jerome Messam was a small disappointment last week. He is going to be under-owned this week because I expect many lineups to be focused on the passing game of the Stamps. If the Stamps get up on the Bombers early he might see an increase in touches and at a low ownership.
WR: Davarius Daniels was placed on the one-game injured list last week so he is eligible to return this week. If he is in the lineup he is a great option along with Marquay McDaniel. McDaniel has been disappointing so far, this season, however, I expect him to have his best game of the year so far this week against the Bombers defense that the Riders beat up last week. If Davarius Daniels is out again this week I really like Lemar Durant again. He made a couple of big catches last week and was a huge value play. I guess I should mention Kamar Jordon here as well. He is a big red zone target and managed to get in the end zone twice last week, however, I feel he is to touchdown dependent to be a reliable play.

Winnipeg Blue Bombers
Injuries: Jermarcus Hardrick RT knee injury, Tristen Okpalaugo DE shoulder
QB: Matt Nichols took advantage of poor Saskatchewan secondary to put a lot of points on the board for the Bombers. I don’t expect him to be able to do the same this week against a much better Stampeders defense.

RB: Andrew Harris is a great back and usually a safe play in cash, however, this week against the Stamps I won’t have him in my cash lineups.  I expect the Stamps to take the lead early and to force the Bombers to have to throw the ball down field limiting Harris’ touches.
WR: Westen Dressler had touchdowns on back to back offensive plays running the same play just opposite sides of the field where no one covered him in the deep part of the field; he was also overthrown in the end zone in the first half. So, you could argue that he could have had 3 TDs or you could argue that he should have had 0 Tds. Also take away the long touchdown, which should have never happened and he is at 37 yards receiving. His ownership is going to go up but I am going to recommend fading him for the reasons I just listed. Darvin Adams lead the Bombers receiving core in catches. He looks to be the safest option if you want a one off from the Bombers.

Saturday, July 8th Toronto Argonauts at Ottawa RedBlacks

Ottawa favored by 5.5 over under 56

Weather: No concerns as of writing

Toronto Argos
Injuries: Brandon Washington LT limped off the field
QB: Ricky Ray still hit the 300-yard mark last week against the Lions. The RedBlacks defense hasn’t impressed me to the point to not recommend using Ray in tournaments.
RB: James Wilder was impressive in the place of Brandon Whitaker catching 4 passes! If he is back starting lineup he will be a nice value running back in cash and GPP lineups. If Whitaker is back I am off the Argos running backs.
WR: DeVier Posey has impressed me both weeks so far and I see him as the safest option at WR for the Argos this week and very usable in cash. Also, Armanti Edwards has quietly put together a nice start to the season, don’t sleep on him

Ottawa RedBlacks
Injuries: Juron Criner WRleg injury he has carried off the field in the first quarter and did not return (out). DB Tindle limped off the field in the 4th quarter. DL Ettore Lattanzio limped off the field in the 4th quarter, I think he’ll be fine.
QB: Trevor Harris had a great game last week in Calgary 400+ passing yards with 2 TD passes. The Argos defense has impressed early this year but is making their first road trip of the year. Lots of ownership is likely to be on other QBs this week. I like Harris again this week as a contrarian option in GPPs.
RB: Mossis Madu was adequate in his first start of the season. He was not part of the passing game for the RedBlacks with only one catch. I think we can find better options at this position this week. I expect the RedBlacks to struggle to run against the Argos this week.
WR: If you are going to use Harris in a GPP this week, the receivers to pair him with take almost no thought at all. Brad Sinopoli and Greg Elingson are by far the RedBlacks best passing options both had 7 catches for 100+ yards and are tied for the team lead in receptions. Dionte Spencer had a huge game for the RedBlacks but I would expect him not to be able to do the same this week. As a lot of his points came on a punt return. The Argos have done a great job shutting down the two best kick returners in the league in their first two games and expect more of the same against Spencer. Let other people take the high-risk play of Spencer and take advantage of Spencer’s higher ownership by fading him.

Saturday, July 8th Hamilton Tiger-Cats at Saskatchewan Roughriders

Saskatchewan favored by 1.5 over under 53

Weather: No concerns as of writing

Hamilton Tiger-Cats
Injuries: Terrace Tolliver WR
QB: Matt Nichols threw 4 touchdowns last week against this Riders defense. Zach Collaras is going to be a great GPP option this week.
RB:  I’m not a fan of using Gable in DFS is ceiling is not very high as they don’t use him much in the passing game.
WR:  Here is where the fun is this week! We all should know that Luke Tasker is going to get a bump in targets with Terrence Toliver out.  The question is where are the rest of Tolliver’s targets going to go?  Before I make my final recommendation I am going to wait until the depth charts come out on Friday. Keep an eye out where Mike Jones is; also Brian Tyms should see more targets.

Saskatchewan Roughriders
Injuries: Nic Dempski knee WR, Erick Dargan DB, Caleb Holley WR
QB: Kevin Glenn threw 4 touchdowns to 4 different receivers and for 377 yards last week. This week he is going against a team that allowed the Argos to throw for 500 yards against them. I am not saying that is going to happen again but I am saying that it could. I like Glenn as a low owned GPP option.
RB: Marshall should be a regular running back again this week.
WR: Sometimes I almost forget that Duron Carter is on this team. One because they are deep at receiver. Two, if he isn’t the primary target on a play he doesn’t seem to run his route hard, so he doesn’t get targets when Glenn goes through his progressions. Bakari Grant appeared to be Glenn’s favorite target early in the game last week and Naaman Roosevelt was the Riders best pass catcher last year. Also, they play the positions that the Argos targeted against the TiCats in week one. With Hamilton coming off a bye and with this being the last game of the week I really like this as being a great low owned GPP stack. The only thing that might increase their ownership might be that Rider fans will stack them too.

Good luck everyone this week!
