Today we have a 5 game slate on the board in the NHL. There are a few teams heavily favored in these games as two of the three league’s worst teams (Buffalo, Edmonton) are on the road tonight in tough matchups. Here’s a breakdown of the 5 games tonight:

7PM- TB @ NJ

I expect this to be a low scoring game with two of the league’s best goaltenders in Ben Bishop and Cory Schneider squaring off. I do not like anyone in particular in this game except for the two goaltenders as I expect maybe 3-4 total goals being scored in this one. Victor Hedman is not a bad option at defenseman, however, I think you can save some salary for another player like a Cam Fowler who can give you the same production.

As I mentioned above, there are some heavy favorites on the board tonight. The Caps come into this game as -210 favorites in this home tilt vs. the Wild. Braden Holtby is my top play at goaltender tonight as he is coming off one of his worst performances of the year against the Canadiens on Wednesday. The last time Alex Ovechkin played the Wild he had a hat trick alongside his linemates Nicklas Backstrom and TJ Oshie, who combined for 4 points. That top line has been on fire this second half of the year and are a great option tonight in this very favorable matchup. I would stay away from the Wild in this game, especially on Fanduel due to their +/- scoring statistic.

This game should have a lot of goals in it as Vegas has the O/U set at 5 with the over being favored -140. I think both teams are in play here with Marchand and Bergeron being solid plays on the Boston side and Jordan Staal being a top play on the Carolina side. This would be a solid game to take a few guys in on the DraftKings slate, where the only thing that matters is SOG and scoring. I would prefer to go with a safer option like Braden Holtby or John Gibson in this slate, however, Tukka Rask could be a decent GPP play due to his likelihood of a low ownership percentage.

Speaking of favorites, Anaheim is -280 ML in this game tonight. I believe John Gibson will be in net but check before the game starts to make sure. He or Frederik Anderson (whoever starts) will be a great play tonight as they are as close to a lock as there is for a win this game. I like Corey Perry and Rickard Rakell in this one along with David Perron, as he is a former Oiler. Cam Fowler is a solid option at defenseman for Anaheim, as he has a great deal of upside facing this weak Edmonton team. On the Edmonton side, Connor McDavid has been just unreal this year, however I see no reason to go pay up for him in this matchup that is incredibly unfavorable.

10:30PM- BUF @ SJ

The Sharks are -215 ML in this game vs. the Sabres. The top line of Joe Thornton, Joe Pavelski, and Tomas Hertl are a solid stack in this game, especially for the late night slate. The Sharks average a solid 2.85 goals per game on home ice this year. Chad Johnson, the starter for the Sabres tonight, has a 2.76 GAA on the road this year and will be making his first start in two weeks tonight. I expect the Sharks to beat Buffalo up in this one, however I see Evander Kane having a solid game in this one perhaps coming out on the offensive end with a point or two.
